Illustrated map of Paris in ink and colour pencil.

Earlier this week I posted an illustrated map of London. Today, I turn to another great capital city with a map of Paris.

I first went to Paris on my school tour.

My main recollections of that time were the beautiful buildings and streets, the first sight of the Eiffel Tower.

Years later I returned to Paris with my then boyfriend, Jason. Clearly caught up in the magic of the place, J asked me to marry him. We had no ring, no money, no matter. I said Yes and we bought a bottle of champagne and cream buns to bring back to this even tinier Paris hotel we were staying in near Montmartre.

Since then we’ve gone back every five years to the scene of the crime. Paris is undoubtedly one of my favourite places for the above reasons and about 1000 more.

“In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines
Lived twelve little girls in two straight lines
In two straight lines they broke their bread
And brushed their teeth and went to bed.
They left the house at half past nine
In two straight lines in rain or shine-
The smallest one was Madeline.”
