This is a map of Lismore Co. Waterford, which I illustrated for the 2021 Towers & Tales Festival. I’m delighted to say the organizers are using the illustrations again for the 2023 festival. What an honour for me!
The map and illustrated characters were designed for use in print and also for the website.
If you’ve been to the festival before you will know it is just one of the best children’s book festivals which takes place in a real-world magical place – Lismore Castle. I’ve been a several times before and it’s brilliant.
In 2021, the festival did not happen in the castle because, well, you know … C***d. But there was still a fantastic day of drawing, reading, and creativity workshops available online. I’m did two kids’ workshops. One is for schools called Doggy Doodles – where we’ll draw some different dogs and create some doggy letters. The second workshop is for kids aged 5 – 10 where we’ll draw a fantasy map with mountains, swamps, volcanos, skull caves, and maybe even a pirate ship.
This year (2023), myself and another Illustrator friend, Olivia Golden are the festival artists with an exhibition called “Beasts and Books” which took place in The Vault in Lismore town. Again, another honour.
