St Patrick’s Day 2021. There are no parades, parties, get-togethers, sing songs or bands this year. Thanks to the Coronavirus lockdown in Ireland there are no public celebrations of St. Patrick’s Day.
It’s hard to believe that we were starting the Covid journey around this time last year.
The schools in Ireland shut around the 12th of March 2020. At the time, we thought it was going to be a short break, maybe even only a couple of weeks.
There was a bit of controversy over the cancelling of the St. Patrick’s Day parade in 2020. Some people felt it was over the top, but little did we know what was coming down the line.
At the time I’m writing this, the vaccination is being rolled out in Ireland. The roll out is a bit slower than most people would like, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. My own parents have had their first vaccination and will be getting their next one next week. So for that I’m very thankful.
Remembering the parades we used to have, here is an illustration from my book, Island of Adventures. This is Patrick’s Day in Galway. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Island of Adventures is available from all good book stores and from O’Brien Press
