In my new book, Scout’s Best Day Ever, Scout (the dog) sends a postcard home to Cat every day. Cat is aloof, of course, and disinterested (maybe) in Scout’s postcards.
When I was starting the book, or at least getting some ideas together, I began with sketches of Cat.
In the images below you can see how cat started life in watercolour. Initially, Cat was yellow, but once I settled on making Scout a yellow dog, I changed Cat’s colour to orange.
