Blot’s Most Marvellous Historical Guide To Printing Books is a picture book published by the National Print Museum in Ireland. The book is written by Dr. Angela Griffith of @trinitycollegedublin and illustrated and designed by Jennifer Farley.
An exhibition in the museum showcases the history of printing. Going all the way back to Chinese printing blocks to today’s modern colour printing.
Jennifer Farley also illustrated and designed the layout of the exhibition which Dr. Angela Griffith curated. It was a wonderful project to work on.
Who Is Blot?
The affable George Thomas ‘Blot’ Dickson is an eighteenth-century printer’s apprentice, brings the visitor on a journey, describing the evolution of bookmaking, its processes, and its impacts.
The exhibition covers the history of book printing, includes a section dedicated to Irish book illustration from 1900 – 2000, with artwork by PJ Lynch and Marie Louise Fitzpatrick.
The National Print Museum in Dublin is a truly magical place. The printing presses are still in use today, so when you visit you can try your hand at laying out text and printing it.
The book and exhibition project has been managed by the Museum team members Carla Marrinan Funder and Mary Plunkett.
The exhibition is now open and is free to visit.
Below you can see several spreads from the book, which you can purchase from the National Print Museum shop.
