This is my beer can illustration for the @illustratorsireland x @hopfully_brewing exhibition which opened last night in @luckysdublin
I’m delighted to share an exciting project I recently had the opportunity to work on – a collaboration between Illustrators Ireland and Hopfully Brewing Company. The challenge? To design an eye-catching label for a beer can and a striking wall art piece for Lucky’s in Dublin. The result? A light-hearted and fun illustration that captures the essence of a fearless woman surfer taking on the mighty Atlantic waves at sunset.
Surfing the Inspiration: For this project, I wanted to create something that not only showcased my illustrative skills but also conveyed a sense of adventure and pure joy. Inspired by the iconic Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai and his famous “The Great Wave off Kanagawa,” I embarked on a journey to bring the spirit of the ocean and surfing to life.
Meet the Brave Surfer: In my illustration, you’ll meet a fearless woman surfer. Her hair flows like the waves themselves, and she’s riding down the face of a Hokusai-inspired wave as the sun sets over the Atlantic. What’s truly daring about her? She’s surfing without a wetsuit – the madser – and if you’ve ever dipped your toes in Irish waters, you’ll know that’s no small feat. The frigid waters might make a mere mortal shiver, but this surfer girl is all smiles.
Light-Hearted and Fun: With my illustration work, I generally aim for a light-hearted and fun nature. In this piece, I aimed to capture the sheer joy and excitement of riding the waves, even in challenging conditions. It’s a celebration of the adventurous spirit that unites surfers worldwide.
The Exhibition: This artwork was part of an exhibition featuring the works of talented members of Illustrators Ireland, a community of artists I’m proud to be a part of. Collaborating with Hopfully Brewing Company was a unique and exciting opportunity to merge the worlds of art and craft beer.
Lucky’s in Dublin: But that’s not all. The illustration didn’t stop at the beer can; it also found a home on the walls of Lucky’s, a well-loved establishment in Dublin. It’s not every day your artwork gets to be part of the local ambience, and I’m honoured to have my piece contribute to the vibrant atmosphere of this iconic spot.
Illustration & Collaboration: This collaboration between Illustrators Ireland and Hopfully Brewing Company was a creative journey filled with excitement and laughter, just like the spirited surfer girl in my artwork. You can see all of the work by IGI members hanging on the wall in Luckys and even try a @hopfully_brewing beer.
Congrats to @whackochacko – his lovely design will feature on the next special edition beer from Hopfully.
Huge thanks to @tatyanafeeney and @jenkinson.debbie from Illustrators Ireland for putting it all together.
