It’s a historic day. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have been elected as President and Vice-President of the USA. I don’t live in America, I’m not American, but like many people, I’m feeling a huge sense of relief. I’ve been to America many times and I love it. It had become a very dark place in the last few years and the “American Dream” had become the American Nightmare.
With the election of two people who seem decent, intelligent and competent I think the world is breathing a sigh of relief.
Let’s hope that a sense of calm will prevail.
Up until this election, I only ever watched CNN in hotel rooms in foreign countries, looking on the TV to find something in English. In the past four days I have watched so much CNN, I’m on a first name basis with Wolf, Anderson, Jake, Chris and honorary Irishman John King (the man with the map).
Between the election and the world succumbing to Covid-19 and the obvious signs of climate change, the news has been pretty depressing. I’ve tried to avoid doomscrolling, (More on Doomscrolling on the Merriam Webster site), but I see there is a new word in town now that we’re getting some good news – Gleefreshing.
